Contacting a Deputy after hours

Our office is located in downtown Shelbyville on the 2nd floor of the old Courthouse.  The address is 501 Main Street Shelbyville, KY 40065
We have deputies available 24 hr., 7 days a week.  If you need to speak with a Deputy after normal business hours, call dispatch at 502-633-2323. If the is an emergency dial 911 and a Deputy will be dispatched to your location.
Contact us during office hours at 502-633-4324.  You will need the name of the person(s) involved or case number.  Traffic accident reports can also be acquired online through buycrash.com.  You can find a link to buycrash on our home page.  In most cases reports are complete within 5 days of the incident.

Payments

We can do inspections at the office during normal business hours.  When you arrive, park in the inspection lane located on 5th Street. See one of our clerks in the main office on the 2nd floor and they will conduct an inspection on site.  You must have the title of the vehicle and a valid driver’s license.  A $5.00 inspection fee will be assessed and can be paid with cash or check.  You can also contact the office and request an inspection to be done at your location for a $15.00 fee.  Vehicles must be legally road worthy to be inspected. 
  
Payments can be made to the Shelby County Sheriff's office by cash or check.  WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARD. If you make a payment by mail and would like a receipt, you must send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

2% Discount - October 1-November 1, 2019
Face Value - November 2-December 31, 2019
5% Penalty - January 1-January 31, 2020
21% Penalty - After January 31, 2020
Property tax bills can be paid during office hours (Monday through Friday 8:30-4:30pm) except holidays. Property tax bills can also be mailed to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. Property tax bills must be paid in fill, we cannot accept partial payments.
IIf your property tax is paid through a mortgage company, check with them to see if you or the mortgage company is the responsible party for payment of the property tax bill. If your payment is distributed by the mortgage company, it is the property owner's responsibility to forward the tax bill to the mortgage company.

​Homestead exemption

Disability exemption

You can sign up for the homestead exemption when you turn 65 years of age in that tax year. You sign up at the Property Valuation Administrations Office in Courthouse Annex building. This will provide you with a $37,600 deduction off you assessed property value, which in turn will lower your payment.   

We accept post marks as long as there is nothing wrong with the payment.  If we have to send the payment back, it will be posted the date the correct payment is received
​If you are disabled you may sign up for the disability exemption.  This process is also done at the Property Valuation Administration office located in the Courthouse Annex building. You have to sign up for this exemption yearly.
